New Era Colorado
1975 Grant St. #501
DescriptionNew Era Colorado is beginning to put together our Denver team for the upcoming Colorado Legislative Session and the 2012 Elections! We are looking for Interns who are passionate about progressive issues and interested in getting some real hands-on experience with lobbying, writing, and political organizing.
The internship program will involve learning the necessary tools for social change through a full-spectrum civic engagement program. Although the responsibilities are flexible and your role will be developed in partnership with New Era, you will be a major component of our lobbying efforts, issue campaigns, and further development of New Era Colorado. You'll learn the skills and strategies from New Era staff, elected officials, professors, and experts in the fields.
ResponsibilitiesThe internship requires 10 - 15 hours per week and the tasks will vary. We will have a 2 hour intern meeting/training, 3 office hours per week, 1 hour of social media outreach, 2 hours of writing for New Era News, and 2 - 7 hours of organizing (building teams, registering voters, and campus outreach).
We are looking for interns for the following roles:
Voter Registration, Education, and Outreach
Registering young people to vote, providing information on the upcoming ballot measures and candidates, and ensuring they actually vote, will continue to be a vital part of our internship program.
Issues-Based Research and Program Development
Focus on specific issues to raise awareness and ensure that they are integral part of the political landscape. Democracy doesn’t end with voting. We want to see young people working with their elected officials on legislation. Currently New Era is focused on environment, equality and election reform to create a better society for us to grow into.
Write press releases, organize media campaigns and write for New Era News.
The state capitol is not out of reach; these internships work on legislation that actually gets passed, real laws that affect real people.
Social/Events Outreach and Planning
Work on raising awareness and generating discussions about New Era and our issues. Educators might host discussion groups and seminars, marketing majors might work on messaging; communications majors may want to work on concert tabling.
