Office of Assemblyman Michael Blake - Bronx, NY
The Office of Assemblyman Michael Blake is looking for motivated undergraduate and graduate students to serve as legislative interns and start immediately or whenever their semester spring begins . Interns will be expected to work 2-3 days and between 12 and 25 hours each week. Please address all cover letters to Jonathan Kelly. There is no GPA requirement to apply.
Legislative interns develop and plan legislative initiatives, monitor legislative developments, conduct research, and do constituency follow up on behalf of Assemblyman Michael Blake. The office is more than happy to work with students who wish to receive college credit as part of the internship.
Biography: Assemblyman Michael Blake is a former senior staffer to President Obama, the former Director of African-American and Minority Business outreach in the White House, and the current New York State Assemblymember of the 79th District. He serves on the housing, banks, election law, corrections, and veterans' affairs committees.

Responsibilitieso Track legislation and other developments in his or her assigned issue areas;
o Monitor legislative developments;
o Represent the Assemblyman at 1-2 community board(s), tenant association, and/or precinct council meetings in the evening after 6pm weekly and provide office updates to constituents;
o Act as a liaison with committee and agency staffs;
o Perform special projects assigned by the Member or Chief of Staff/Administrative Assistant;
o Provide information on and generate ideas for press, mass mailings, and newsletters;
o Answer constituent letters and help constituents on matters;
o Meet attendance requirements as established by the office;
o Maintain a good working relationship with the Member, staff, and constituents; o Accept performance based criticism and direction;
o Perform other duties as assigned
o Ability to perform the essential job functions;
o Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in the formulation and recommendation of policy positions for the Member;
o Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with others;
o Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner;
o Knowledge of office policies, practices, and procedures
