Houston Methodist Research Institute was formed in 2004 to rapidly and efficiently translate discoveries made in the laboratory and the clinic into new diagnostics, therapies and treatments. The research institute was created to provide the infrastructure and support for these endeavors, and to house the technology and resources needed to make innovative breakthroughs in important areas of human disease. A 440,000 square foot building dedicated to research, the research institute houses over 1,150 staff members, 270 principal investigators and has more than 600 ongoing clinical trials.
To provide advanced technical research skills and establish test methods and procedures under the direction of Department Chairperson or Research Scientist (Faculty).
GROUP SERVED N/A DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties May Include: Directs Laboratory Research Plans, directs and coordinates laboratory research projects (Low to medium complexity)
Determines specific goals objectives to be attained Assigns and reviews work of research project staff.
Oversees team of Research Assistants and Post Docs 0 to 2 Establishes and maintains quality control of project operations Grant Writing and Publications Plans research (Low to medium complexity)
Analyses data (Low to medium complexity) Reviews scientific literature
General Laboratory Duties
Defines problems and possible solutions (Low to medium complexity)
Adheres to internal controls established for Department'Safety and Regulatory Compliance Writes and maintains regulatory and safety committee applications/protocols
Adheres to and assists with customizing of TMH TMHRI Safety Procedures for Laboratory
Demonstrates the components of the ICARE values statement Follows safety rules while on the job.
Reports accidents promptly and corrects safety hazards.
Compiles all hospital required and job-related in-services and applies the information needed
Performs other duties as assigned.
MS with 5+ years experience Or Terminal Degree with <5 years experience, 2 + years preferred
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills Ability to work under pressure and balance many competing priorities
Proficient in spreadsheet, word-processing, and presentation software
Demonstrates effective communication skills Maintains a positive and supportive attitude and demeanor
Professional handling of exposure to confidential/sensitive information
Ability to work in office setting, involving the use of office equipment and supplies.
Ability to work in a laboratory and/or animal research facility.
Work in animal research facility requires health evaluation and approval by TMH Employee Health/TMH Wellness.
The working environment is varied to include general office, with normal amount of lifting, carrying and walking
Demonstrates the ability to use computer technology to review and analyze data, plan and communicate
