Description

GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR MASS COMM STUDENTS
An internship with Amarillo Magazine presents students with an outstanding, real-world opportunity for hands-on experience in magazine publishing.

Our interns have moved on to internships at national publications, such as O Magazine and an exciting opportunity in London at a fashion magazine, as well as promising careers in the publishing industry. Their experiences with Amarillo Magazine put them a step ahead of other students seeking internships and employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

From brainstorming and planning to writing, editing and participating in photo shoots, eligible candidates will be exposed to every facet of producing a monthly publication.

Students will take part in editorial meetings and assist with visual concepts, story boards, developing content ideas and coordinating a variety of photo shoots. In addition, interns will have the opportunity to research and write features for both the print and online versions of the magazine, providing much-needed clips for print and digital portfolios.

Requirements

Qualified candidates must be a junior or senior college student and have maintained an overall GPA of 3.0. Candidates must be able to communicate effectively, have excellent writing abilities, be able to think creatively on the fly, and be comfortable working on a deadline. Interns must prove they are receiving college credit for their time spent at Amarillo Magazine. Interns will be expected to handle themselves in a professional manner as representatives of Amarillo Magazine, execute interviews with clients and brainstorm with a creative team. Individuals will also need to possess time-management and customer-service skills, superior knowledge of the English language and AP Style, and the ability to use a computer system for editing and updating Amarillo Magazine’s social media. Several of our interns were not writers; they were, however, creative, driven individuals who were able to use their skill sets in other areas, such as photo and video shoots, updating our website, and clerical duties.
