The intern will work with the Registrar in assisting with inventorying and cataloging
of the Museum’s archival collection. The Museum’s collection dates from the 1700s to the present. The collection includes documents, books and photographic material.
Responsibilities
The internship goals will include imparting on-the-job training and experience in the world of museum archives. The internship pertains directly to the inventorying of the archival collection along with the inspection of the collection during the inventorying project. Interns will gain knowledge in museum inventory management along with archival preservation and minor conservation work.
Main Responsibilities:
• Movement of boxes
• Examination and inventorying of box contents
• Creating Finding Aids
• Scanning documents and photographs
• Entering data into computer database
Requirements
Prospective interns need to be currently enrolled in a graduate or undergraduate program or have recently completed work in such program. Students majoring in Library Sciences, Museum studies or a related field are ideal.
The best candidates will be able to:
• Work independently within the guidelines established by Registrar and ask questions when new situations arise
• Work on multiple projects at the same time with minimum supervision
• Interact professionally with varying groups including staff, volunteers, museum members, donors and guests.
• Accept supervision and critique of work
• Lift heavy and awkward boxes.
Applicants must:
• Be detail oriented, creative and resourceful
• Have a good sense of humor
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
• Maintain a professional and amicable demeanor and appearance
• Microsoft Office and Adobe Suite knowledge preferred
Complete a minimum of 150 hours .
