DescriptionJob Description:Under the general direction of the Buyer or Associate Buyer, the Assistant Buyer supports the divisional merchandising strategy. The Assistant Buyer assists with planning, merchandising, digital and programming to maximize the effectiveness of the buying team in order to achieve sales, profits and market share objectives for HSN.
Responsibilities: Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Ensure promotional online execution accuracy including pricing, imaging, promotions, and online experience. Merchandise and manage specific storefronts and related areas, site branding promotional product maintenance. Provide support and assistance related to site rotation, implementation, and coordination of briefs, monthly overviews, store planning creation. Identify opportunities and strategies for expanding sales throughout division. Assist team in the entire assortment build process from product selection to Available for Sale date. (QA, legal, PI, pricing, etc.) Identify market trends from trade journals, magazines and shopping and reporting on them to the buying team.
Generate and analyze reports in order to develop and recommend strategies to maximize performance of brands and items; provide sales recaps, and present as needed.Maintain a working knowledge of BU sales forecasting and an understanding of future company and divisional financial strategies by partnering with planning team. Gain a working knowledge of the open to buy reports. Understand and perform basic retail calculations.
Write and review purchase orders and submit for approval.
Attend vendor, staff, company, and merchandising meetings with Buyer in order to build buying and negotiating skills.Partner with vendors to resolve issues, manage product line(s), and reorder as needed. Source new vendors - investigate leads, obtain samples, etc. Manage assigned Category/Department where applicable and act as anchor of the office when Buyer/Associate Buyer are traveling Obtain and confirm retail price comparisons. Act as Buyer/Associate Buyer's representative during category shows with celebrities as required. Coordinate host information meetings with vendors. Train and mentor new Merchandise Assistants.
Minimum Requirements: BS/BA in related field and 1-3 years of corporate retail buying experience required. Demonstrate understanding of the merchandising process and product lifecycle. Demonstrate the ability to identify trends and translate them into products desired by our target customer. Demonstrate ability to analyze reports and draw conclusions and recommendations. Demonstrate understanding of basic retail math calculations. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communications skills. Demonstrate strong organizational skills and be detail oriented. Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and manage multiple assignments at the same time. Demonstrate ability to interact in a professional manner with all levels of HSN employees and external clients. Intermediate knowledge of Word, Excel and Outlook.Preferred Requirements:
BS/BA in Business, Marketing, or Retail Merchandising.Familiar with HSN merchandising strategy metrics. Experience as an HSN Merchandise Assistant.
Experience using an Inventory Tracking tool such as Retek.
