JOB TITLE: Chemical Packager
REPORTS TO: Finishing Production Supervisor
Packages various chemicals into containers of assorted sizes. A Chemical Packager may also interchange and function as a Screener Operator. This position has the authority to request QA inspection of material if discrepancies are found (Non-Conforming Material, SR-003), to label materials, and to perform balance checks (SR-016).
DEPUTY RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY is other department Chemical Packagers/Screener Operators and/or the Finishing Production Supervisor. In this person-s absence, the duties of a Chemical Packager will be assumed by other Chemical Packagers, Screener Operators or the Finishing Production Supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND AUTHORITY include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.This position has the authority to request QA inspection of material if discrepancies are found (Non-Conforming Material, SR-003), to label materials, and to perform balance checks (SR-016).
2.Packs special arrangements or selections of product following procedures and product specific instructions.
3.Inserts or pours product into containers or fills containers from scoops, funnels or spouts in a safe and timely fashion in accordance with job standards.
4.Accurately weighs containers and adjusts quantity using either the U.S. customary system or the international (METRIC) system.
5.Thoroughly seals or closes containers according to Product Information Sheet instructions. Labels containers, container tags, or products with appropriate product label in a consistent, neat and orderly fashion.
6.Blends products in accordance with procedures and manufacturing records.
7.Inspects and verifies materials and containers at each step of the packaging process. Promptly notifies Supervisor of discrepancies.
8.Accurately records information such as weight, time, inventory location, and date packaged onto logs and production records.
9.Removes containers and places material in proper locations (including quarantine areas) in accordance with procedures, assuring proper stock rotation.
10.Samples materials, as required, and routes samples and records to Quality Control. Logs samples into Quality Control log books in an accurate and timely manner.
11.Promptly cleans containers and packaging rooms thoroughly after each job.
12.Assists in maintaining adequate supplies. Submits requisitions to Supervisor as needed.
13.Organizes and maintains a clean and orderly work area in accordance with the administrative General Housekeeping policy. (MN-010)
14.Strictly adheres to the general personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements as established by company policy.
15.Performs all functions in a safe and timely manner in accordance with OSHA standards and general rules and regulations governing the work place.
16.Seeks guidance from Supervisor as needed, to ensure the above.
17.Attends, and is punctual for, appropriate meetings and training in-services.
18.All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, packaging instructions, pick lists, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent of all units of measure. Ability to compute and interpret using the metric system.
REASONING ABILITY - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds with equipment or manpower assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
