Description

Newark Beth Israel Medical Center (NBIMC) and Childrens Hospital of New Jersey (CHONJ) is an award winning medical institution and teaching hospital.  NBIMC is a 673-bed medical center offering comprehensive health care, with more than 800 physicians and 3,600 employees and serves a major referral source and treatment center for patients throughout the region.

Established in 1901, the hospital has a long history of providing many firsts in the national and state medical community.  NBIMC is third in the nation in the number of heart transplants with better than expected outcomes, has the only lung transplant program in New Jersey, and combined with Saint Barnabas Medical Center, both Barnabas Health affiliates, is third in the nation for kidney transplants, by volume.

NBIMC is the only major teaching hospital in New Jersey to be named a Thomson 100 Top Hospital Performance Improvement Leader for two consecutive years.  The August 2009, 2010 and 2011 issues of US News World Report Americas Best Hospitals ranked NBIMC, The Heart Hospital, in the top 50 hospitals nationally for specialty care in heart and heart surgery.

NBIMC is among a select group of organizations that have set national benchmarks for quality patient care, patient safety, and hospital efficacy, representing a highly significant achievement and true culture of performance improvement.

Children's Hospital of New Jersey, located at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and part of Barnabas Health, is the state's premier hospital caring for children, with specialized services to treat ill and injured children from newborn to adolescent years and has the most comprehensive pediatric cardiac care program in the region, as well as preventive programs that promote wellness in the community.

In 2012, the New Jersey Hospital Association awarded NBIMC and CHONJ, three of their top five awards for Clinician of the Year, Quality Improvement in the ICU and Community Programming for the Beth Organic Garden.   The American Hospital Association awarded NBIMC/CHONJ its prestigious NOVA award for NBIMCs community health and wellness programs.
