Description

Massachusetts Hockey is the governing body for youth hockey in the state of Massachusetts and provides leadership and guidance for youth associations throughout the state. The internship will support the Executive Director in the area of communications. We are a non-profit group that has membership of over 50k hockey players, coaches, parents and officials. We have recently undertaken the task of improving our communication efforts through a redesigned website, digital newsletter and use of social media. The intern will support these efforts and gain an understanding of our structure and business operation.

Responsibilities

• Work directly with the Executive Director to create and distribute content for Massachusetts Hockey assets including a monthly newsletter, website and social media
• Create feature stories relevant to Massachusetts Hockey membership (past and present)
• Attend monthly meetings for Massachusetts Hockey Board of Directors and assist in event management
• Cover State and National-bound tournaments and create content from events
• Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Please note: The Massachusetts Hockey office is located at 99 Derby Street in Hingham, MA. The intern will be required to work from the office at least one day (4-5 hours) per week. Overall time expected is approximately 15-20 hours per week, some of which can be done off-site.

Requirements

This internship is designed for a communications/journalism major with an interest in sports marketing. Strong writing skills are a must, as this is a writing-intensive position. Areas of software proficiency should include: Microsoft Office, Photoshop, basic HTML programming, and Google Docs. A successful candidate will have the ability to interact with volunteers, executives and other professionals. Strong organizational and time-management skills are a must.
