Description

Our Mission: Target Community & Educational Services is dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities through quality, community based residential, vocational, recreational and family support services. Target's offices are located in Westminster, Maryland, and Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Responsibilities

The Target Community and Educational Services and McDaniel College Masters Program is a 2 year live-in program where you work for Target managing one of our Alternative Living Units (ALUs) while attending McDaniel College two evenings a week to earn your Master of Science Degree in Human Services Management/Special Education, teaching or management track. Target is a non-profit agency providing residential, vocational and recreational services to adults with developmental disabilities. In Target’s Community Living Program we currently have nine ALUs and an Apartment Program where each home is managed by two live-in community living managers for the two years they are working towards their degree. Each ALU has three clients who live in the main part of the house and a two bedroom apartment in the downstairs of each home for the managers. In the apartment program, each apartment has three clients. The managers for each apartment live in a separate apartment in the same complex. The apartments are equipped for two people, both community living managers. Regulations do not allow others to live in the apartment (i.e., significant others, children, pets). Each manager works 40 hours per week in the home and have community living assistants (CLAs) that assist them. All of our clients have day programs they attend weekdays. For the most part, our program is set so that each year in May half of our managers graduate from McDaniel College, which ends their commitment with Target. This means that we have eleven positions to offer each year for the Master’s Degree program. After visiting our program and interviewing with our directors and president, interested and qualified applicants (must have a GPA over 2.7) are offered a job. Target gives strong consideration to applicants with a degree in Social Sciences, but all are considered. Also, a valid driver’s license with less than three points is required. Upon acceptance into the Target program, all arrangements, registration, etc. to the college are handled by Dr. Zirpoli, our President and CEO and Professor at McDaniel. Target pays 75% of the tuition to the college. Each manager receives the apartment to live in, including utilities. There is a salary stipend, along with health, dental and life insurance benefits. Total compensation totals over $62,000 for two years!
