The Compensation Financial Analyst is responsible for overall project management and extensive analysis work around complex variable compensation initiatives. This includes but not limited to current state assessment, development and testing, approval and communication, implementation and payment process mapping and post implementation monitoring and assessment. Incumbent is required to perform extensive and complex modeling and testing on various business metrics and levers that influence operational performance and incentive payments. Incumbent performs testing & analysis and then reports findings and recommendations to senior management via a compensation committee structure across multiple business formats. Partners with other compensation and business experts to effectively meet client, customer, associate, and financial objectives for the organization. Maintains overall organizational compensation development calendar and manages pace and priorities to achieve a high volume of new and redeveloped variable plans each fiscal year. Job Duties/Responsibilities: • Develops variable compensation models based on strategic objectives and design philosophy for senior managers to assess and evaluate various construct options • Performs complex analysis using historical performance data to produce earnings analysis forecasts • Conducts cost and risk assessment in connection with the Profit & Loss statement • Performs back testing on proposed compensation models off historical performance to produce future state earnings comparisons • Advances compensation strategy and initiatives through project plans, conducting research, producing analytics around cost, value and Return On Investment (ROI) • Performs compensation program auditing, along with managing a close working relationship with finance to ensure programs are thoughtfully integrated into the business plan, back-tested, and adhered to metric calculation standards separate from the business owner • Supports the business in the development and management of variable compensation programs that influence organizational and individual performance, as well as place SHIP in a competitive position within the various labor markets in which SHIP competes to attract and retain talent. These responsibilities include but are not limited to: consulting with the appropriate manager or management group to determine if a new or revised variable compensation plan meets their needs, work with managers to ensure that appropriate performance metrics are identified and integrated into the plan, develop the variable compensation plan and related management and administrative processes, ensure that the variable leverage is effective for the plan and remains consistent with SHIP’s overall compensation philosophy, back-test the plan to determine financial and motivational impact, provide communication assistance to the manager to explain and promote the plan and complete longer range testing of the plan to ensure that the plan is functioning as expected and within the desired financial parameters • Manages an annual compensation calendar to include new program development, program auditing, program, re-writes and base grade structures in support of Sears Home Improvement Products, Service Contracts and Customer Care Network • Develops incentive plans, curves, conducts back-tests, projected earnings and related financial impact, documents plan construct and administrative plans, establishes compliance standards to ensure finance, payroll, Human Resources (HR) and business all have defined accountabilities • Works with business leaders to develop objectives and design scope and then translates these into a project plan that includes development actions involving the business, finance, HR and payroll • Provides expertise to the business leaders by working through compensation issues with the goal of successfully meeting the business objectives while considering the broader corporate policy requirements • Compensation plan documentation and business process audits to ensure that compensation policy is consistent with actual business process execution (commissions, bonus calculations, reports, etc.). Interfaces include IT, payroll, credit, operations, etc. • Plans design and target setting for temporary assignments, job transfers and newly created positions • Communicates to the business to address policy issues and questions • Provides ad hoc support and problem solving to address compensation inquiries. Involves investigation and resolution of administrative items and requires collaboration with IT, Payroll and Finance to bring to resolution • Maintains professional integrity in compliance with Sears/SHIP mission, vision and values • Maintains an excellent attendance record • Dedicated to truly understanding customers’ needs and exceeding their expectations • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner • Maintains personnel confidentiality at all times • Acts as a role model in demonstrating the customer service standards of the organization
