1100 Media - a new media start-up - is fast becoming the leading provider of short form, hyperlocal content in app, print, and online. We produce fantastic content for our audience to enjoy and share. We convey an insider's perspective to the local communities our editors know and love. We cover the hottest, the hippest, as well as the old standbys.
We have great fun writing about our neighborhoods. We are authoritative without being snobby.
We are not beat journalists. We won't cover the city council or the soccer league, though we might profile the soccer team's star player! Better yet, a profile on the soccer team's wise-beyond-his-years, precocious, 6 year old water boy would be a great read!

Responsibilities
We expect contributing writers and editors to produce 10 to 12 posts each month. As contributors grow more comfortable in the position, we expect twice that or about 20 posts per month. Our stellar contributors post content every day.
A typical article is 120 words. The lengthiest profile runs 250 words. Every post must include one good image. Three decent shots per article are better. Our interactive publications on the iPad allow for multiple images and if we can provide our readers more content in app, we will.
Whenever possible, we expect our contributors to shoot their own photography. We don't expect professional results; but we only run images which are nicely composed, in-focus and well lit. Images shot in HDR on an iPhone, for example, will work just fine. And If you can provide decent quality video (or sound clip) to accompany an article, we would be very impressed!
Requirements
We want to hear your voice. We want our readers to understand the community from your perspective. Though this is a natural fit for a journalism, literature, or marketing/communications major - political science, engineering, and economics majors are just as welcome! Frankly, we believe anyone with a modicum of talent and affinity for their neighborhood can participate and be successful.
We will invite top-notch contributors to join our staff on a paid, full time basis as “Managing Editors”. Managing Editors are responsible for supervising and editing a small group of contributors, ensuring their content is timely and appropriate - and helping us grow by sourcing additional contributors for new local markets.
