General Description: Day Program Assistant
Provide assistance, instruction, and supervision to a class of adults with disabilities in VAC’s Day Program. Work with a team of professionals in developing and administering various curriculum models and activities. Instruct and supervise various activity groups including arts & crafts projects, cooking classes, exercise groups, and outings in the community. Accompany the participants and other staff members on various community outings to local museums, shows, movies, restaurants and other places of interest. Must be able to commit to at least 8 hours per week.
1. Assist students/program participants with the various activities planned for the day.
2. Manage, coordinate, and document services and maintain daily case records for the students/program participants in the day program.
3. Work closely with other staff members to develop curriculum models for activities. Responsible for working with the team to create weekly activity schedules.
4. Some clerical/office work may be required as needed. This includes greeting visitors at reception, answering the phone, and some data entry/filing.
Work towards a college degree/human service degree preferred. Must have the ability to evaluate individual’s skills, aptitudes, work goals and areas of improvement. Competent writing and communication skills in English are necessary for position. Must have excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills. Must be a team player!
