The nation’s two leading food allergy organizations, The Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) and the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), have united to advance a cure and promote education for food allergy, a severe and potentially life-threatening disease. The merger combines FAAN’s expertise as the most trusted source of information, programs, and resources related to food allergy and anaphylaxis with FAI’s leadership as the world’s largest private source of funding for food allergy research. The new organization will be known as Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE).
FARE’s mission is to ensure the safety and inclusion of individuals with food allergies while relentlessly seeking a cure. The organization will accomplish this by:
• Funding world-class research that advances treatment and understanding,
• Providing evidence-based education and resources,
• Undertaking advocacy at all levels of government, and

Position Summary:
The Development Intern reports to the Northeast Region Development Manager and works closely with the Development Department to help and execute goals and objectives at the regional level. The position supports the Manager’s community leadership to ensure the effective overall management of company initiated activities within the region. The incumbent will take a proactive approach to implementing strategies and organizing operations to maximize the fundraising potential of the region and must have the ability to establish a presence in the community and bring volunteers and community leaders together to achieve a common goal.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist with the management of the Walk for Food Allergy program in the Northeast Region.
• Assist with “No Food, No Fear” School Program.
• Assist with logistics and implementation for the 2013 Fall Gala including correspondence, phone calls, and solicitation.
• Engage volunteers in regional events.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Support in development details, implementation and follow up in the region.
• Work with Manager to secure local sponsorships.
• Respond to Volunteers’ requests for up-to-date collateral materials, supplies and incentives based on appropriate level of fundraising.
• Manage logistic details for all assigned events including the website and email correspondence
Requirements
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
• Excellent written and communication skills; ability to communicate in a professional manner with audiences at all levels. This includes excellent interpersonal and public speaking communication skills for interaction with internal and external audiences including high-profile donors, support groups, volunteers, medical experts, politicians, and vendors.
• Self motivated, with strong organizational and networking skills; the ability to work on various events simultaneously and a strong eye for detail.
• High degree of diplomacy and tact.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a willingness to work collaboratively across internal teams.
• Experience working with Microsoft Office applications, Donor Database and online fundraising software.
• Available and willing to travel. Available to work nights and weekends.
• Minimum 20 hours per week.
