The Distinguished Events Intern will primarily assist with projects related to Discovery Ball 2013. Responsibilities for Discovery Ball will include: developing new ideas for the silent auction, preparation for the silent auction including writing item descriptions and handling acknowledgements; data entry and report generation, managing the attendee list; assisting with the preparation for Board of Ambassador meetings and other projects as assigned. The intern will report to the Director of Distinguished Events in our Illinois Division office located at 225 North Michigan Avenue in Chicago. This learning opportunity will allow you to learn new skills and strengthen your knowledge as it relates to event planning in non-profits. This opportunity begins 2/2013- 5/ 2013. This is a non-paid position and is not eligible for benefits.

Resume
500-word essay summarizing their career intentions and interests and why they are interested with an internship at ACS
Two references from academic/professional sources addressing the student’s credentials based on the internship’s skill requirements
Responsibilities
Discovery Ball Auction
Solicit silent auction donations
Follow-up with donors if additional information is needed or form was not received.
Assist in the data entry of auction donation forms.
Assist in putting auction items in lots and completing the data entry.
Assist in writing auction descriptions.
Ensure proper storage of secured auction items
Assist with preparations for committee meetings, including creation of event binders
Assist with mailings or other duties related to the holidays and to a cause marketing event
Event duties as assigned relating to the planning of Discovery Ball 2013.
Requirements
Undergraduate college students must meet the following application criteria:
Full-time student, having completed their freshman year of college;
Have a minimum of a B Average (cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale);
Participate in the Illinois Division Student Internship program as part of a bona-fide college program that either provides college credit or fulfills a graduation or coursework requirement (such as required field experience);
Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
Note: an internship assignment may coincide with a student’s last term/semester, however the student is required to disengage upon graduation.
Graduate students must meet the following application criteria:
Full-time graduate student;
Have a minimum of a B Average (cumulative 3.0 on a 4.0 scale)
Participate in the Illinois Division Student Internship program as part of a bona-fide college program that either provides college credit or fulfills a graduation or coursework requirement (such as required field experience);
Plan to continue their education in the following term/semester
Note: an internship assignment may coincide with a student’s last term/semester, however the student is required to disengage upon graduation
Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrate significant computer expertise, including MS Office applications
Demonstrated ability in handling multiple priorities, project management and meeting deadlines
Provide professional/academic references upon request from ACS and comply with all ACS pre-employment screening requirements including criminal background investigation
Be able to work a minimum of 16 hours a week at the Division HQ office location during normal business operating hours
