DescriptionSpeaking to your family and friends is easy. Speaking to a group of people you don’t know and convincing them to trust you, believe in you, and join in your cause is hard. This internship will prepare you for any line of work involving activism, social change, movement building, community building, volunteering, public speaking, outreach, politics, group behavior, group psychology, social cause thinking, youth organizing, student leadership, environment, sustainability, and not for profit work. You will be trained on effective public speaking, team interaction, and positive thinking for social action. With your teammates, you will outreach to different local groups: student clubs, student organizations, schools, corporations, colleges/universities, local residents, local politicians, grant organizations, and many others. You will be empowered with the support of your fellow volunteers, student leaders, and organization to positively and kindly inspire others to care about the natural environment and modern day environmental issues. You will motivate people to volunteer in days of service throughout the month and make friends with each other over contributing to a good cause. You will quiet literally be growing an organization and movement with each day you spend interning. Past outreach coordinators have spoke to students clubs at many north jersey schools, made connections between environmental organizations, recruited hundreds of students to volunteer for the environment, made personal connections with local residents and town political figures, had meetings with town officials, corporations, and not for profit organizations. You will act as a mentor and positive person for volunteers and students alike. You will bring positive vibes to sometimes hard to do volunteer work and inspire people to enjoy their time volunteering. In your day to day work, you will be the person the public goes to – to connect with the organization. This includes press interviews, meeting with possible donors, meeting with interested student volunteers, and possible organization advisers.
• 8 hours, 3 weekend volunteer events per month
• 15+ hours per week, event planning.
• Three free weekend days per month to lead volunteer events
