Description

Host Organization: The Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge in Medford, New Jersey is a non-profit educational facility specializing in environmental education programs for 19,000 school children each year and the rehabilitation of approximately 4,000 animals each year. The Refuge is located at the edge of the Pine Barrens, a unique habitat with special protection in southern New Jersey. For more information visit our website at www.cedarrun.org.
General Information: Under the guidance of our staff, interns at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge have opportunities for hands-on experiences in a variety of areas. From rehab to education there is an array of opportunities for all types of students.
Ideally, fall, winter, and spring interns with the Refuge should be willing to commit at least ten hours a week over the course of an entire semester. Fall, winter, and spring internships are for credit only. Summer internships are 40 hours/week and may include housing or a stipend. Once accepted into the program, students must make arrangements through their school's registrar or academic department to receive credit. Interns will be responsible for keeping a portfolio. For more information or to apply, email Becca Gutwirth, Director of Education and Outreach, at becca.gutwirth@cedarrun.org

Responsibilities

The education intern will work with the education staff assisting with the preparation for and facilitation of pre K-12 field trips and assembly programs. Interns will assist in prepping materials for hands-on outreach programs, as well as for the nature center. The outreach intern, once trained, may also facilitate portions of specific programs, teaching audiences of varying sizes. Handling, care, and cleaning of reptiles and raptors may be required (training provided). Interns may be asked to perform some clerical duties and data entry as well as assist in new program development. Summer interns will be responsible for planning and delivering our summer camp program. Preference will be given to students of junior or senior standing working toward a bachelor's degree in Education, or enrolled in a Teacher Preparation program with a major in one of the sciences.
