Description
This internship provides an opportunity to learn principles of outdoor education and small scale farming in Portland, Oregon. The intern would primarily work with urban youth in camps that expose them to outdoor experiences through 4-H activities. There may also be an opportunity to work with a small preschool Waldorf Forest Camp and an all Hispaninc overnight camp. The internship is for the month of July with some opportunities for extension. A small cabin is available for housing.
Responsibilities
Assist in training and supervision of high school and middle school counselors.
Assist in preparation of materials and activities.
Work with children from 8 to 5 daily ( this includes prep and debrief )
Attend at least one parent campfire
Week one - training
Week two and three - day camp and family nights
Week three - overnight Hispanic Camp or Forest Theatre Camp
Requirements
We are looking for someone with camp or outdoor experiences who wants to learn more about northwest ecology and how to work with urban youth. Spanish is helpful but not necessary. The interns need ot be willing to pitch in and help and most of all enjoy children and feel commitment to getting them outdoors. Theatre skills and arts and crafts and sports are helpful.
