The Financial and Integrated Data Analyst provides group health self-insurance program financial analysis support, designs and develops integrated data analytic models that provide analytics and predictive modeling supporting THPM CoE and HR business and strategic initiatives. Data integration and analytics includes but is not limited to Group Health, Sutter Medical Network, Care Management, Absence Management, Disability Benefits (Short term, Long Term and Extended Sick Leave), Workers’ Compensation, Wellness Programs, EAP, EOW, and Employee Performance Management. The incumbent is responsible for project management, data modeling design, statistical analyses, ROI modeling and comparative performance reporting. Incumbent will develop database queries, reporting requirements, create and maintain databases and data warehouse (Optum Parallax I) to support THPM CoE and Sutter Health HR strategic initiatives, affiliate specific requests and other users of the data as needed. Incumbent is also responsible for developing, defining and implementing metrics for measuring initiative outcomes, estimating ROI and modeling impact of outcomes on trends for THPM operations, affiliate, region and Sutter system. The Financial and Integrated Data Analyst is also responsible for implementing, maintaining HIPAA compliance and data validation within the internal and external vendor supported data warehouse.
Other duties of the Financial and Integrated Data Analyst as assigned by the VP of Risk Financing include SutterSelect assessments of Incurred But Not Reported (IBNR) reserve adequacy for monthly close, benchmarking analysis and report development in order to identify trends that support benefit design changes and cost improvement areas, target development and monthly analysis of insurance program financials, claims, and statistics, and detailed analysis of component costs for premium forecasts and rate-setting/validating for budget purposes.
The Financial and Integrated Data Analyst understands all aspects of insurance company and insurance plan financial matters and takes a lead role in overseeing analysis projects as assigned by the VP Risk Financing, Integrated Analytics and Risk Financing Director and or THPM CoE Operations Team. Quality and accuracy delivered under a tight timeframe is expected from this position. This position requires no supervision for routine tasks and requires the ability to identify problems and make recommendations in complex financial analyses. Substantial experience in health plan or insurance company finance matters enables the Financial and Integrated Data Analyst to serve in other roles of the department as assigned by the Integrated Analytics and Risk Financing Director.
BS in Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, MIS or related field required. Masters Degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or MBA desired.
At least 2-4 years of experience and sustained above average performance at an analyst level designing, applying statistical and analytical models for data analytics. Experience performing variable testing, sensitivity analysis and data modeling is required. Experience and knowledge applying predictive modeling desired. Prior experience in insurance, health plans, clinical claims analysis, healthcare industry, employee benefits, and/or risk management is preferred. Knowledge and experience with data extraction is desired (SQL, Crystal Reports). Experience analyzing financial statements, preparing and analyzing budgets or prior experience completing financial/claims analysis or financial/claims forecasting.
The Financial and Integrated Data Analyst must demonstrate organizational, analytical and problem solving skills. Must have excellent oral and written communications skills including the ability to obtain relevant information and investigate sensitive facts while maintaining confidentiality. Must also have the ability to identify technical issues and communicate solutions to all levels of the organization and affiliates. Must have a commitment to detail and accuracy. The Financial and Integrated Data Analyst must be able to work independently, determine priorities among ambiguous and diverse tasks, and analyze data while working in a fast paced environment with firm deadlines. Must be able to work well in a team environment, as well as act as a team leader when necessary.
Must be able to sit for prolonged periods to operate computer using monitor/screen and keyboard. May require periodic overtime for the timely completion of projects and/or problem resolution. Must be able to drive to affiliates throughout Northern California. Vision, speech, hearing, and the ability to lift 5-10 pounds are required.
