This SUMMER 2013 STUDENT internship opportunity is designed to give students experience in facility management, marketing, supervision, aerobic and weight training instruction and health promotion. The health and fitness intern position is 10-12 weeks in length, for 15-20 hours per week, depending on the student's schedule. The facility is open Monday-Friday (7am-6pm) in the summer, and shifts may include opening and closing shifts (7am-10am or 4-8pm). The schedule will be worked out jointly between the department manager and the intern.

Responsibilities

The internship will take place at the Chestnut Hill College Fitness and Recreation Center, a 5,000 square foot facility that opened in the fall of 2011. Essential Job Functions 40% - Facility Management – Supervising fitness center, monitoring and maintaining equipment, stocking supplies, customer service, record keeping, filing, data entry, using security software, and other related responsibilities. 30% - Marketing and Health Promotion - includes basic program development for users, basic introduction to equipment to users, execution and post-program evaluation. 20% - Fitness Assessments - includes meeting with individual users to evaluate their current health needs, goals and schedule to develop a basic aerobic and resistance exercise prescription, using available tools and resources. 10% - Other Duties as Assigned

Requirements

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: All must be met to be considered. Education: Junior or Senior level student working towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree in physical education, exercise physiology, exercise science, kinesiology, recreation, health education, health promotion or related field from an accredited college or university. Experience: Must have related coursework experience and current CPR/AED certificate. First Aid certification preferred. Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must work well with a diverse audience. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Proficient use of Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint required. Passion and personal interest in wellness highly preferred.
