Description
You will be learning the domestic and international freight business with a few days training then assisting the 2 sales managers with reports, finding prospects, visiting prospects and customers. Possibly attending some trade shows. The position is part time and if you have any interest in sales, this is a ground floor opportunity that could turn into full time work upon graduation. We have been in business since 1961 and I am the regional sales manager. I have been in this industry for almost 30 years. This is not grunt work, it is truly a training ground for sales in the transportation industry. We hope you can help our company grow and join us upon graduation. The first few weeks are unpaid until we can determine if the fit is right for both of us. It will turn into a paid position after 30 days. We pay hourly plus mileage and commissions. Starting wage is a minimum of $10 per hour. We are looking for someone who has 2 or more mornings free as this is the best time for prospecting.
Responsibilities
You will first be in a few days training in an office, then some light reading at home. After a brief training we will have you learning how to call prospects and set up appointments. Then we will be going out on the road and visiting prospects and customers. We may canvass an area (walk around business parks and collect business cards for future calls. You must be on time, no flakes needed here. This is a serious business but we do know how to make it fun. We work with so many different industries, you will never be bored. We are members of the World Trade Center where we attend meetings on all types of trade issues. We do want someone with a positive attitude (no complainers) and the ability to pipe in your own ideas. We run this franchise ourselves and we have the ability to do some unique and fun things. 2 weeks ago we had a customer appreciation lunch and followed that with a trip around San Diego in a private plane for our top customers. This is all about good relationships. If you excel at that , you will do great at this. Please have some social media experience.
Requirements
Must haves: knowledge of excel, some social media, and some sales is helpful. If you are shy, this is not the job for you. You must be outgoing, like people, polite and honest. This position is easy for those who know it is ok to not know everything. If you dont know something, you will tell the prospect or customer that you will find an answer and get back to them. This is not a hard sell, it is about developing relationships with customers and being their go to person for all of their freight needs.
