Description
The management trainee will be provided with the opportunity and the tools to apply
their post secondary skills in a professional environment while contributing to a good cause.
The position offers excellent career development opportunities with many assigned
responsibilities and valuable work experience. Become an integral part of an event that will
make history by assisting us with the organization of our first annual run - ‘Miles for Mental
Health’.
Instead of monetary payment, introductory and on-going training will be provided for the
following skill sets:
- Communications

- Writing
- Management & Team leadership
- Education about the non-profit sector as well as mental health challenges and initiatives
This position is suitable for those who would like a challenge, are willing to learn a lot in a
short period of time and for those who would like to take on lots of responsibility. This will be
the first time CMHA Simon Fraser will be holding a run in New Westminster; with hopes it can
become an annual fun-filled family event for community-wide participation. The purpose of this
run & walk event is to raise awareness for mental health issues and funds for CMHA-SF, while
encouraging active physical fitness and celebration for the whole community.
The Fundraising and Promotions Coordinator will be responsible for supporting our team
on various promotions and fundraising activities, including the marketing, sponsorship and
fundraising initiatives for our run & walk event. For this position, we are looking for someone
who loves networking within the business community, thrives on a challenge, is creative, a self starter, media savvy with strong communications skills and has a sincere willingness to learn new skills and subjects.
Responsibilities
Fund-raising assistance:
? Research and target companies and organizations that may provide funding, sponsorship
and/or grants for the run and/or other CMHA activities
? Coordinate printing and distribution of sponsorship package to companies and
organizations
? Schedule meetings with companies for marketing/sponsorship calls
? Network in the business community for contacts
? Meet company representatives and market the run and other CMHA-SF services to
companies
? Secure monetary donations
? Help to secure media sponsorship and in-kind donations
? Coordinate sponsorship benefits such as company promotional opportunities
? follow-up to thank sponsors for their assistance
? Management, Promotions and Communications assistance
? Recruit, manage and coordinate volunteers
? Learn about Mental Health issues and resources in the community (for messaging and
communication purposes)
Utilize social media channels as a way to promote the run (establishing a Facebook page,
Twitter account, My Space etc.), our organization and other related initiatives
? Design promotional material for the run and/or work on management and coordination of
volunteers that may be interested in designing promotions material for the run
? Assist with the development and maintenance of the Run’s website
? Contact and solicit (and coordinate volunteers for solicitation) elementary, high schools
and universities, colleges and other groups for promotion and awareness of the run and
CMHA activities
