Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library is the former estate of H.F. du Pont with 60 acres of naturalistic garden set within a 1000 acres of woods, meadows & streams amid the rolling hills of Delaware's Brandywine Valley. Appealing to a wide audience of tourists, culture seekers, and avid horticulturists, the Winterthur Garden is a historic and rare example of a "wild garden". The Garden Historian Intern will focus on organizing the histroical documentation for the restoration of the Reflecting Pool, East Terrace and Glade. This inrern will also photo document the current site conditions of those areas. The intern will prep all garden restoration files for archiving. This will include organizing and scanning documents and photographs and identifying missing information.
Responsibilities
Research skills in locating and deciphering key information, strong organizational skills and attention to details, ability to express ideas clearly, orally and in writing; good time management skills, ability to follow directions as well as good decision making skills; ability to work independently and complet projects on their own, basic plant nomenclature and garden design knowledge/garden history knowledge; ability to limb stairs; excellent computer skills required along with basic digital photography, ability to read maps.
Requirements
Minium: enrolled in an accredit garden/landscape design/history program or related field. Preferred: Four years of college; with coursework in garden/landscape design and history and horticulture must have valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Salary: $9.50 per hour - 35 hour week M-F . Housing is available on site.
