Description:
Under limited supervision, provides prenatal diagnostic or preconceptual genetic counseling to potential high risk patients and family members; conducts in-take screening, risk assessment, explains nature and scope of testing procedures; coordinates activities such as scheduling patient appointments, assisting during diagnostic procedure; preparing laboratory specimens for processing, etc.
Serves as liaison between Genetic counseling program, referring physicians, hospital departments, state agency, community support groups, etc. Works in partnership with other staff members, proactively identifies and provides for client needs using appropriate customer relations practices. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Age groups served may include adolescent through adult, but will vary depending on specific assignment.

Requirements:
Job Qualifications/Education/Training/Certification/Licensure:
Master's of Science Degree in Genetics or Genetic Counseling. 2-3 years of clinical experience, preferably in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Work Environment and Hazards:
Include risk of exposure to communicable diseases and risk of physical injury from lifting patients.

Work Contact Group:
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the  department.
