Responsibilities
U. S. Steel's Minnesota Ore Operations includes two open pit mines and processing facilities in Northern MN (Minntac in Mt. Iron and Keetac in Keewatin) and has the following temporary, full-time vacancies for the summer of 2013 that will perform projects at the Keetac location.
INTERN MAINTENANCE SERVICES: Reporting directly to the Area Manager of Maintenance Services, the successful candidate will be assigned to a variety of projects including, but not limited to, implementing portable filtration systems for shovels and drills; improving lube filtration systems in the Crushers; evaluating premium lubricants; optimizing work orders in our computerized work management system; and developing and tracking maintenance key performance indicators by utilizing the Wenco Mine Management System. In addition, this position will be responsible to carry out and conduct activities in compliance with the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
INTERN PLANT MAINTENANCE: Reporting directly to the Area Manager of the Plant, the successful candidate will be assigned to a variety of projects including, but not limited to, reviewing, updating, and organizing Maintenance files and databases; drafting and designing various mechanical components; updating and revising mechanical prints in the plant; and planning and coordinating various additional projects in the plant as needed. In addition, this position will be responsible to carry out and conduct activities in compliance with the U. S. Steel Safety program to ensure a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
Requirements
These positions require the candidate to be currently enrolled as a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field and have completed, or be working towards completion, of their sophomore year and be in good academic standing. The successful candidate will also exhibit excellent communications, planning, and organizational skills and be proficient using Microsoft Office and other web-based applications.
