Responsibilities
U. S. Steel's Minnesota Ore Operations includes two open pit mines and processing facilities in Northern MN (Minntac in Mt. Iron and Keetac in Keewatin) and has a full-time, temporary vacancy for the summer of 2013 at the Minntac facility:
INTERN MINE PRODUCTION: Reporting directly to the Area Manager of the Mine Production, the successful candidate will be assigned a variety of projects including, but not limited to, working with Mine Production personnel to refine and optimize the production benefits associated with the new computerized mine management system. Specifically, the successful candidate will focus on developing production, cost, material usage, equipment performance and maintenance reporting methodologies for the mine. In addition, these positions will be responsible to carry out and conduct activities in compliance with the U. S. Steel Safety program ensuring a safe work environment within the assigned facility.
Requirements
This position requires the candidate to be currently enrolled as full-time student pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Mining or Civil Engineering or a related field and have completed, or are working towards completion, of their sophomore year and be in good academic standing. The successful candidates will also exhibit excellent communications, planning, and organizational skills and be proficient using Microsoft Office and other web-based applications.
