DescriptionA System Safety Intern is needed to support the Navy's Strategic Systems Program by assisting with safety and configuration management efforts. Will be responsible for creating hazard assessment forms, performing probabilistic risk assessments, assisting with the completion and approval of weapons safety technical letter data packages, attending safety meetings, tracking required safety action items, communicating with internal and external contributing agencies, auditing existing configuration management plans and developing new configuration management plans for complex systems. May also participate in site reviews and help develop solutions to address vessel, weapon and facility issues and assist with verification, test and evaluation, life cycle support, analysis of alternatives, effectiveness assessments, developing briefs, budgets, decision papers and coordinating support, analysis of alternatives, and effectiveness assessments, developing briefs, budgets, decision papers and coordinating deliverables. THIS POSITION IS YEAR ROUND.
RequirementsMust be currently pursuing a Graduate degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or Operations Research and have a desire to work in a multi-disciplinary engineering role including projects relating to systems requirements, safety, performance, integration and weapons effects. Must have strong written and oral communication skills and possess the ability and willingness to multi-task. Must be proficient in MS Office. MATLAB, AutoCAD (or other CAD platforms) is preferred. Background with object oriented programming languages; geographic information systems experience such as ArcInfo is also preferred. The ability to perform engineering calculations, research technical engineering and ESOH (Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health) requirements is highly desired.
Candidates must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Successful candidates will be subject to a security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. U.S. citizenship required.
