Intern - Systems Engineering Opportunities at VMware

Systems (Kernel Developers, OS Generalists): Our Systems Engineers work on solving complex problems as we advance the technologies in both computer virtualization and operating systems. Engineers interested in everything from computer architecture to compilers are involved with inventing techniques for reliable and efficient virtualization of computer resources. They are interested in computer architecture and compilers get to invent techniques for reliable and efficient virtualization of computer resources. They work on virtualizing the latest Intel and AMD CPUs, cutting-edge multi-Gigabit Ethernet networking interfaces, modern USB and DVD devices, 3D graphics devices and state-of-the-art Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage area networks (SANs).
Computer Virtualization: Engineers interested in systems architecture, systems software, and distributed systems get to design and implement novel operating system techniques and algorithms for managing both virtual and real computer hardware. They work on harnessing the power of highly sophisticated computer and storage hardware.
Responsibilities: You may be involved with some or all of the following:
* Design and develop systems and server management applications in user space and kernel
* Backend server side application development of APIs
* Work with QA engineers and ensure software testability, quality and stability Work with documentation team and ensure quality documentation of the product and API
* Participate in the design of our systems and server management module
* Pursuing Bachelor’s, Master’s Degree or PhD in Computer Science or equivalent
* All intern candidates must be enrolled at an accredited four year university with plans to return to school upon completion of an internship opportunity
* Experience developing user space and kernel modules
* Experience developing client-server or distributed, multithreaded applications in C
* Experience with x86 architecture
* Experience with Storage Area Networks a plus
* Hardware understanding desirable
* Previous internship experience is a plus
