INTERN POSITION TITLE: Intern, Web Publication and Content Management
DEPARTMENT: Online Communications (web team)
LOCATION: Stamford, CT
ASSIGNMENT LENGTH AND HOURS:
This is a summer internship opportunity and runs from June - August. This position requires a minimum commitment of 4 days/ week and consistent attendance to ensure that projects are seen to completion.

AmeriCares is a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies and aid to people in need around the world and across the United States. Since it was established in 1982, AmeriCares has distributed more than $10 billion in humanitarian aid to 164 countries.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Web Team in the Communications Department serves a global constituency of donors, recipients, partners (donor & program) and a growing community of people who are at various levels of engagement with the mission of AmeriCares.
The team maintains/builds/enhances all of the online channels of communication including multiple web sites, applications and a growing presence in social media (Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and YouTube). The team also creates/develops/publishes content for each channel.
The Communications Department produces an increasing amount of dynamic content for all the online channels, and the web team handles the production and publication of the content (text and digital) to our web platforms. The Web Publication intern would learn the basics of publishing to our content management platforms, and then help in ongoing publication, testing and updating of the site on a daily basis. Solid web skills including use of Google, Adobe and Microsoft tools would be required with HTML knowledge very helpful. Reporting to the Web Designer, the intern would also have the opportunity to expand development experience in the building of a micro-site.
Responsibilities
Daily/weekly/monthly
• Daily content publication/layout schedule
• Site functionality and link check (ongoing), including cross browser checks
• Respond to regular web ticket requests for site updates and changes
• Review web content for possible cross linking opportunities and implement
• As a web team member, join in our working strategy and problem solving sessions as we share/develop ideas
Longer term projects:
• Build a prototype micro-site using our major annual event (Airlift Benefit) as a model
• AmeriCares, the Game testing (mobile application)
• Participate and contribute to the production of a group intern video project
DELIVERABLES
By the end of this internship you are expected to have completed the following:
• Micro-site prototype based on 2012 Airlift Benefit pages
• Publication process template developed for our project management system – Basecamp – a spread sheet checklist of the process to serve as guideline
EXPERIENCE GAINED
• Achieve new level of understanding and expertise in the use of our web tools and platforms (open source and proprietary) to organize and publish content to further the mission of AmeriCares
• Team building skills and the value of the team approach in problem solving and project development
• How to develop, design, build and standardize a micro-site
• New technical skills in understanding and working with the architecture and functionality of a website
(create, shape and publish)
Requirements
- Current undergraduate student (preferably rising junior or senior) with academic major in Computer
Science, Web Development, Web Design, Web Content etc.;
- Record of academic achievement and seriousness of purpose;
- Interest in global health, international development, emergency response, and/or international affairs;
- Experience with/knowledge of web content publication, ideally using HTML; plus Google, Adobe and
Microsoft tools;
- Excellent research and writing skills;
- Strong organization skills;
- Prior office/administrative experience preferred;
- Self-starter -- ability to work independently and meet deadlines;
- Team orientation -- balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals;
