Description

Description of the Program/Site The Center for Urban Community Services (CUCS) is a pioneer in creating comprehensive, effective housing and service programs for homeless and low-income people, primarily single adults, particularly those suffering from serious mental illness, HIV/AIDS, substance abuse, and other disabling conditions. Since its inception at Columbia University in 1979, CUCS has also worked to improve public policy affecting the homeless and dispossessed. Thousands of formerly homeless people have found independence and rebuilt their lives with the help of CUCS' programs and services. The Center for Urban Community Services invites applications for a Summer Internship position at the CUCS’ Transitional Living Community (TLC). The TLC is a nationally recognized model for helping mentally ill homeless people acquire housing. The program services include: transitional housing for 43 women, comprehensive case management, group treatment, on-site psychiatric and medical services and housing placement.
