Kiva's Software Engineering General Intern Role:
Be a member of a world class web-business engineering team, on a mission to help alleviate poverty through lending. Kiva is an open standards based shop, leveraging the best of the open-source communities as well as the latest technologies to emerge. Depending on interests and expertise we have a variety of projects.
This is an unpaid internship.
Working with one of our engineering teams, you will be responsible for the ideation, design, coding, testing and perhaps even deployment of one of a variety of tools, applications, or services. The specifics will depend on the skillsets available. Our needs run from deep systems work at one end to UX design at the other.
Example projects range from site security to analysis of ‘big data’ to end user based tools. Tools to facilitate the engineering and release process is another area of interest.
Gathering requirements from the Product team.
Turning requirements in to specifications for sign-off.
Liaising with the Design team regarding UI layout and interactions.
Coding the application.
Regular code reviews with the Engineering team.
The most important skills are drive, engineering acumen, and a desire to move at ‘internet speed’.
Skilled at working collaboratively with multiple teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
Strategic thinker with the ability to balance competing needs, generate creative approaches, and manage uncertainty
Ability to think about long-term content strategy and operations, as well as juggle multiple short-term deadlines
Is self directed, eager to meet and exceed objectives, and excited to take
