Open Books Literacy Interns are responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of Open Books’ literacy programs. This internship is designed for people with a passion for and an interest in working directly with youth across Chicago.
Responsibilities
Projects you might encounter. Literacy Interns may assist with a plethora of Open Books initiatives, all of which involve working directly and indirectly with students in our programs. As an intern, you may lead programs and workshops, develop new curricula, conduct research about trends in literacy and education, and more!
However, almost every single intern acts as a Site Leader for Open Books Buddies.
Requirements
Ideal candidates will possess:
• Experience working with children
• An enthusiastic and positive attitude
• Great public speaking skills
• Passion for the mission of Open Books
Availability & commitment. Literacy interns commit to the position for a minimum of one semester (12-16 weeks), and must be available during regular weekday hours (9am-5pm, M-F). While time in the office varies with each intern, most interns work between 10-25 hours each week.
Open Books hires literacy interns in the fall, winter/spring, and summer. There are 5-8 interns working in the Literacy Department at any given time.
