Description

Nashville Opera annually produces three to four fully staged operas at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center accompanied by either the Nashville Symphony or the Nashville Opera Orchestra. Additionally, the company produces a children’s opera performed over seven weeks at schools and public venues in middle Tennessee and southern Kentucky. Nashville Opera is Tennessee’s largest opera company, generating more revenue and filling more seats than any other opera company in the state.

Nashville Opera is currently looking for Fall/Spring Interns available August/September 2013. We have two major fundraisers coming up in September and November on top of our Mainstage Season that we will need help with.

We are especially looking for Interns in these special Areas:
Marketing/Public Relations

Journalism
Arts Administration
Photography

About Nashville Opera Internship Programs
Internships offer meaningful learning opportunities and on-the-job experience to those who are interested in beginning careers in performing arts management or arts education. Opera internships offer the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people both in and beyond the company. The majority of our interns are college students or recent college graduates, but any qualified applicants interested in pursuing a career in arts management will be considered.

A basic familiarity with opera and an enthusiasm about classical music is a great help, because it cuts down the amount of material interns must assimilate, and adds greatly to interns' enjoyment of the activities offered during the season. There is a formal evaluation process throughout the program.

All internships are unpaid positions, although all interns will receive two season tickets to Nashville Opera. Starting and ending dates are organized around the needs of the intern. Hours may include some nights and weekends. Each intern’s supervisor develops a list of learning objectives and goals for the intern, which are reached by completing various assigned projects. Housing is not included.

How to apply
To be considered for an internship with the Nashville Opera, please submit the following to Chandra McKern at cmckern@nashvilleopera.org
• Cover letter indicating which internship interests you most and in what season you’d like to do an internship (summer, fall, spring).
• Resume including present and permanent addresses, education, work experience, and two references.
• Two letters of recommendation from professors, past intern supervisors, or other persons with knowledge of the applicant’s work ethic.
