Description
Funded through a grant from the United State Golf Association, the P.J. Boatwright, Jr. Internship with the NYSGA is tailored to prepare a qualified intern for a career in the field of golf administration. This position is focused primarily on the management of the NYSGA’s tournament progam, but additional responsibilities will provide experience in membership and volunteer services, media relations, photography and basic website design.
Responsibilities
• Respond to general inquiries related to NYSGA Championships and State Days tournaments
• Manage the tournament entry process (data management, eligibility confirmation, technical support) for all NYSGA tournaments
• Assist with preparation of material for championships, mailings, meeting and seminars
• Provide on-site championship administration support including player registration, equipment logistics, course marking and set up, live scoring and volunteer services
• Administer State Days Series Tournaments with the support of NYSGA Volunteers
• Assist Manager of Communications and Development in media coverage (photography and writing) for tournaments and writing/editing content for the NYSGA website and newsletters
• Assist with the NYSGA Foundation’s fundraising events and outreach programs
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the senior staff
Requirements
• An interest in a career in golf administration
• A college degree (completed or in progress) is preferred but not required
• Ability to work and communicate effectively in a collaborative atmosphere
• Self-motivated, personable and willing to work flexible hours
• Experience in event management/operations is a plus
• Proficient in the use of MS Office programs
• Drive and operate company SUV and trailer
• Lift equipment up to approximately 50 pounds
• Able to travel throughout New York State
