DescriptionAbout the Wylde Center
The Wylde Center teaches environmental awareness to diverse local students through hands-on gardening and outdoor
education programs. We are dedicated to empowering young people to become the next generation of environmental
stewards by engaging in projects that address real needs. Respect for the earth and each other underlies all our efforts.
By teaching about wellness, teamwork, and conservation, we hope to empower youth to take charge of their own
health, as well as that of the environment.
The Garden is situated in the floodplain of an urban neighborhood on one and a half acres. The site includes a small
slice of native piedmont forest, a stream, a bog garden, beehives, chickens, vegetable gardens, a cob play house, a
toddler play area, an office space, a labyrinth and more. It serves as an outdoor classroom for the numerous youth
programs offered through the Garden for youth ages 2-21, as well as community gathering space. It also offers a series
of adult and family classes on sustainable living skills.

space located in the heart of Oakhurst in Decatur. There are many facets to the garden, one of which is
growing food for education and enjoyment purposes. We offer classes, volunteer opportunities and
community garden plots. There is always a lot happening, so we could use some extra sets of hands!
The intern opportunity could be any number of hours 5-15. This can be discussed in an interview and we

The main focus of the intern will be to assist the site coordinator in daily operations. This could range
from planting seeds to pulling up weeds to talking to kids to hauling trash to the curb. It is meant to be a
learning experience, but also a way to understand the workings of a head gardener/site coordinator and a
