What: Marketing/Sales (Business) Intern position at TZPP
When: At least 20 hours per week for a set 3/6/12 month internship.
Where: Virtually, TZPP conducts all of our business through email and phone.
Why: We provide the internship for individuals who are looking for a hands-on experience, as a type of "clinical" or re-training tool, either academically or for professional reference.
How: Will aid in Marketing, Sales, Business Development, and Market Research.
Responsibilities
- Comfortable making sales calls (either cold or warm) to bookstores, book clubs, etc.
- Developing Press Releases for maximum distribution to many outlets including newspapers, magazines, regionals papaers, etc.
- Interacting with Authors to develop their interview, reading, presentation, etc skills for live and radio appearances, and speaking engagements.
- Aiding in developing Copy text for books and their campaigns.
- Researching outlets for sales development.
- Designing and Executing Grass roots marketing efforts.
- Write effective copy, excelling in correct spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
- Comfortable with Social Media and interacting with it.
- Finding and Signing Panel Readers.
- Retailer Invoicing
You will be required to read 1 or 2 texts during the course of this internship, as well as complete two papers, and a final internship review.
Be prepared to answer the following questions during the initial emails and interview:
1. Tell me, what is your impression of the business environment of the publishing industry, as it stands right now.
2. What do you think the industry will look like in 5, 10, 20 years?
3. What do you think are the highlights of the industry, and the deficiencies?
4. If you could run your own publishing company, what would you do differently?
5. Finally, if you were given a campaign to run, how would you prefer to go about doing it? Is there a particular genre of book writing for which would you prefer to avoid?
Requirements
- Have a brain, computer and phone, the time to commit, and a desire to learn and explore new things continuously.
- Seeking individuals mostly in their Junior/Senior or Post-Grad years, and professionals looking to switch careers will consider others.
- Major preferences are Marketing/Sales, Business, Accounting, Economics, Psychology, Communications, Project Management/Logistics, Teaching, others also considered.
- You must also understand that you will be put to actual work along with an academic component, we don't have time for label making, most of our interns characterize our internships as "being thrown to the wolves, with a safety net."
