Job Summary:

  We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Operations Research Analyst for our growing Operations Research (OR) Group at CSX. The position is open for all bands, from entry-level to experienced data mining modelers, and candidates will be considered for the position that best matches their skills and experience.  The OR Analyst is expected to perform statistical data analysis, develop data mining models, manage their implementation, and provide support and maintenance. He/she will interact with internal customers to identify business requirements and develop the best course of actions to meet their needs. Collaborating with other organizations within the company and managing the work with university/outside consulting groups are also essential parts of the job. Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
  • Assist management in decision-making by formulating and developing data mining models to provide insights from various types of data
  • Manage OR tool development projects
  • Roll out new OR tools and train end users
  • Work closely with CSX Technology to convert built OR tool prototypes into production
  • Collect data and perform simulation to extrapolate alternate scenarios
  • Build and implement optimization models
  • Manage university and outside consultant projects
  • Adopt cutting-edge predictive analytics techniques and conduct research if needed
  • Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager

  Qualifications   Minimum Qualifications:
  • Masters degree from an accredited institution required in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related major field of study

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. from an accredited institution in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, or Computer Science

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Solid training and strong working knowledge in a variety of theory and techniques in Machine Learning and Data Mining to fulfill tasks of correlation analysis, clustering, association analysis, sequence analysis, time series analysis, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of statistical software to rapidly come to conclusions, and empower business decisions about data
  • Familiarity with Hadoop/MapReduce, distributed computations and analyzing unstructured data
  • Familiarity with text mining, social media mining and stream data mining
  • Proficient working with relational database for data manipulation
  • Proficient in programming in C++, C#, Java or other languages
  • Skills in simulation
  • Ability to build optimization models
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to be a strong self-starter and able to work well independently
