DescriptionGeneral Statement: This is an ongoing application pool for Instructors that is reviewed on an as needed basis. As Instructors are needed to teach specific courses at the campuses, selections will be made from among this pool of applicants for all campuses- Skyline College, College of San Mateo, Cañada College. If you do not receive a response this could be because there is no position at a particular campus available at the present time or that the position/s have already been filled.

Teach developmental English as a Second language courses, including writing, reading, and listening/speaking courses. Requirements: Master's Degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis, or education with a TESL emphasis, OR
Bachelor's Degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with TESL certificate AND Master's Degree in linguistics, applied linguistics, English, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, speech, or any foreign language;
OR the equivalent (see information below).
Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities. Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff; including those with disabilities.

Academic Background Equivalence: Meet all of the Requirements in an allied field, and twenty-four (24) semester units of both upper division and graduate work in the academic field specified in the job announcement. Transcripts required.
Professional Achievement Equivalence: Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field specified in the job announcement. Preparation, experience and ability must be equivalent to those expected from a candidate who meets the Requirements. Desirable Skills and Abilities: 1.successful experience in teaching, or evidence of preparation to teach, the full range of English as a Second Language courses, including writing, reading, and listening/speaking courses
2.willingness to work in the Writing Center, which serves students enrolled in English and ESL courses and in courses participating in the Writing Across the Curriculum initiative
3.willingness to work in the Reading and ESL Center, which serves students enrolled in Reading courses and ESL reading and conversation courses
4.ability to teach successfully with classroom-based instruction and to incorporate computer-assisted instruction both in the classroom and online
5.ability to use and develop teaching methods that emphasize cooperation and collaboration and engage students actively in learning, encouraging them to become independent, creative learners with critical thinking skills
6.ability to organize and explain materials in ways appropriate to students with different abilities, levels of preparation, and cultural experiences
