DescriptionGeneral Statement: This is an ongoing application pool for Instructors that is reviewed on an as needed basis. As Instructors are needed to teach specific courses at the campuses, selections will be made from among this pool of applicants for all campuses- Skyline College, College of San Mateo, Cañada College. If you do not receive a response this could be because there is no position at a particular campus available at the present time or that the position/s have already been filled.

The Selection Process
District Selection Process: Required application materials will be screened by a committee on the basis of Requirements and Desirable Skills and Abilities listed in this announcement. Candidates for interview will be selected from among those who most closely meet the Requirements and Desirable Skills and Abilities. Meeting the minimum qualifications does not guarantee an interview. As part of the interview process, candidates will be asked to give a classroom lecture/demonstration. Please note that the SMCCCD does not reimburse candidates for travel costs.

Web Page: www.smccd.edu/hr Duties and Responsibilities: Can~ada College seeks a part-time Health Science Instructor. The essential functions of the position are to: teach in a variety of health career related courses including basic health science; consult with students during regularly scheduled office and lab hours; perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs.
The college offers day, evening, and weekend classes and teaches some classes on local high school campuses. The person selected for the position may be expected to teach evening classes or classes on local high school campuses as part of regular workload. Requirements: 1.Master's degree in health science, health education, biology, physical education, dietetics, or nutrition; OR a Bachelor's degree in any of the above AND a Master's degree in public health or any biological science OR the equivalent.
2.Ability to communicate effectively with persons of diverse cultures and language groups, and people who have disabilities. Demonstrated sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with disabilities, in both day and evening settings.

Preparation, experience, and ability must be equivalent to those expected from a candidate who meets minimum qualifications. Desirable Skills and Abilities: The screening committee will select interview candidates from among those applicants who, in addition to meeting the requirements, give evidence of any or all of the following:
1.Recent successful experience in teaching, or preparation to teach health science courses.
2.Ability to incorporate technology mediated instruction in the classroom and/or to teach curriculum using distance education;
3.Ability to communicate effectively in both written and spoken language;
4.Ability to work independently and as part of a team of faculty and staff;
5.Commitment to supporting gender, ethnically, culturally and academically diverse students enrolled in health sciences;
6.Ability to use teaching methods that engage students actively in their own learning, emphasize cooperation and collaboration, and encourage them to learn problem solving skills;
7.Capacity to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of one's own pedagogy and modify techniques to improve student achievement of learning outcomes;
8.Understanding, enthusiasm and commitment to the mission of the community college.
