Shire's US Internship Program offers hands-on work experience to students completing their undergraduate and graduate degrees and allows Shire to engage with the local community and discover new and emerging talent. Requirements for the Shire US Internship Program include:- Enrollment at an accredited college/university
- Completion of at least sophomore year of undergraduate study by internship start date (Both undergraduate and graduate students that apply will be considered)
- Major in a field appropriate to the internship
- Minimum grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Legal authorization to work in the US
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to start on one of the designated start dates.
- This intern will be assisting upstream Engineering Technical Services with basic process engineering support and technical document management.
- Compile and review reference materials for bioreactor and roller bottle systems
- Develop comprehensive training materials that summarize key points of the bioreactor and roller bottle systems, including job aids for manufacturing and facilities operations groups.
- Work with Process Development group on developing better scale down models and calculations
- Assist upstream process engineers with various engineering projects including bioreactor mass transfer characterization
- Gain valuable experience with troubleshooting in a GMP manufacturing setting.
- Receive GMP training Required
- Working towards bachelor s degree in engineering chemical, biomedical, mechanical engineering preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Good interpersonal skill
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work well independently and in groups
- Ability to multitask
- Strongly proficient in Microsoft Office suite, especially Excel, Visio, PowerPoint.
- Ability to read/understand equipment P IDs
- Strong attention to detail practices to a broad variety of assignments.
- Work with cross-functional teams in developing requirements and recommendations for basic system modifications.
- Work is performed under general direction of ETS personnel.
- Plan, schedules, and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.
- Work is reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting assigned objectives.
- In addition to working closely with members of the ETS group, this individual may have project based contact with Manufacturing and Facility clients.
