DescriptionLightHorse Healthcare, Inc. is an outpatient multi-disciplinary integrated behavioral healthcare practice in Coastal Georgia has an opening for interns in professional counseling. Located in St. Marys, Georgia, the program provides traditional outpatient behavioral healthcare including counseling, psychology, psychotherapy and medication management in a traditional clinical office setting. Additionally, opportunities exist to work in the experiential programs of Animal Assisted Therapy and Equine Assisted Therapy. The intern will have expert training and clinical supervision in diagnosis, assessment, treatment planning, crisis assessment and crisis intervention along with much needed skills to work with different levels of providers in a highly clinical medical model practice.

Quality clincial training begins in internship and LightHorse Healthcare, Inc. offers training and supervision to 2 bright students each year in an effort to 'train interns' for the further development of the field to ensure ethical skilled providers continue to be available.
ResponsibilitiesInternship training is split into three segments. Initially, the intern will complete new patient evaluations and be supervised carefully to ensure they have the skills necessary to gather complete medical model intake evaluations and make accurate provisional diagnoses.
Following the initial intake rotation, the intern will be given a case load of individual adult clients with a variety of reasons for referral in order for the intern to develop treatment planning and psychotherapy skills including case closure and discharge planning.
Following successful completion of phase I and II, the intern will be allowed to choose a specialty practice for development. Choices include: Child & Adolescent Treatment, Family Therapy, Group, Play Therapy, Art Therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and Crisis Assessment & Intervention.
The intern will participate in weekly individual supervision and group/team supervision every other week. The intern will be able to participate in any agency staff development workshops provided (usually 4 times per year).
RequirementsInterns must have met the requirements for clinical internship in a Master's program that will lead to state licensing in Georgia as a Professional Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapist or Clinical Social Worker. Course work in Diagnosis and Assessment, Counseling Theories and Animal Assisted/Art or other Experiential Therapies is preferred.
The intern will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and familiar with Electronic Medical Records software systems for record keeping. The intern will also need to possess a strong work ethic and desire for excellence in professional development.
