Research Assistant position available within Dr. Peng Zhang's laboratory based in the CardioVascular Research Center. Individual will be expected to participate in a study to investigate cardiac remodeling in response to hemodynamic stress, with a particular focus on cardiac fibroblasts and their role and regulation in the normal and diseased heart. Cellular, molecular and functional changes in isolated cardiac cells, whole heart and intact animals from rats and genetically modified mouse models for cardiac disease will be investigated. Specific duties will be determined according to candidate’s background and qualification, and needs of the lab but may include small animal handling, tissue culture, microscopy, etc.
A B.A. or B.S. degree in biological/biochemical science required. Strongly recommended candidates have a minimum 3-6 months experience in a basic science laboratory either as independent research in college or as employment. Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet. Good oral and written communication skills.
