Mission statement of SolAmor Hospice: "Caring is the Key in Life". Our mission statement succinctly defines our purpose as healthcare providers and our commitment to our patients, families and community. We care about our service, we care about those with whom we serve and ultimately we care about those who receive our care. As an intern, you can use your talents, skills and giftings to encourage hospice patients and families.

Through the work of a strong and committed team, hospice provides care to the terminally ill and their loved ones, assisting in pain management, care, comfort and quality of life. Hospice is available to patients when a cure is no longer possible. Hospice care focuses on how dying persons and their loved ones live each day, providing comfort and guidance along the way.

Interns can serve in a variety of ways:

1) Provide support for the patient/family by making friendly visits, providing companionship, encouragement and support. (No hands on medical care is required). Visits may be made in private homes and/or nursing facilities.

2) Provide administrative support by answering the phones and assisting with office duties.

3) Provide special services by making crafts and other items for the patients and assisting with community awareness activities.

Requirements include a completed application, background check, reference check, drug testing, tb skin test, valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance. For interns desiring to have contact with patients in private homes, CPR certification is required. All testing and certifications are done at the organization's expense. All interns will receive training from our Volunteer Coordinator and/or Social Worker. The training gives an overview of what hospice care is all about including grief and bereavement care.
