Description

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks highly motivated, self-starting students who are passionate about public health, health education, and community outreach. The Community Outreach and Programs Assistant will provide support to ADA staff while gaining valuable skills and insights on community engagement. This opportunity is available at our field office in midtown, Manhattan.

Responsibilities

Support our programs and community outreach department- and signature community initiatives: Live Empowered (African American Initiatives), Por Tu Familia (Latino Initiatives), Living with Type 2 Diabetes and Workforce Wellness. Aiding in the recruitment of volunteers, conducting workshops, and attending community health fairs; Conduct research and outreach to organizations across sectors. This internship though unpaid can be used for class credit and/or focus project adaptable. Background or studying in Public Health, Health Education, Community Health Nutrition, Nursing, Social Work or other related fields are encouraged to apply.

Requirements

* Excellent writing, research and communication skills * Currently enrolled as a undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate * Some work experience * Ability to empower and educate diverse communities * Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously * Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Internet, email and networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter
