DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in the installation, maintenance, and administration of the City's wide-area-network (WAN) infrastructures spanning more than 400 locations.
Diagnoses network failures, and operates test equipment to isolate software, hardware, circuit or cable related problems. Works with vendors to resolve problems. Configures replacements for failed network hardware.
Evaluates network designs to make recommendations for improvements in performance. Maintains statistical reports on project status and inventory.
Maintain network documentation and perform Quality Assurance on new deployments against a checklist.
Maintain and troubleshoot issues with the City's multiple high-speed Internet connections.
This position will be required to be on-call on a rotated basis with the rest of the network team.
In-depth knowledge and experience with all aspects of TCP/IP routing fundamentals is required including BGP, EIGRP, ICMP, DHCP, QoS, summarization, redistribution, and IPSec.
Must have a good working knowledge of Cisco routers including 7200s and the ISR G1 and G2 series. Must be knowledgeable with Cisco layer 2 and 3 switching technologies found in Cisco Nexus and 3850 class switches.
Must be able to run network data and voice cabling.
Experience with multiple site connectivity options such as T-1, Ethernet, and Multi-point configurations.
Good verbal and written communications skills are required.
Must have Visio experience.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items up to 40 lbs and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
Preference will be given to applicants with a Cisco CCNA certification or higher.
