DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform complex, skilled technical work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a Motorola P25 TDMA/FDMA trunking communications equipment, Alcatel-Lucent IP based microwave network, subscriber devices, dispatch consoles, and fire station alerting equipment.
Assists in the development, installation, maintenance, and administration of the City's Project 25 (P25) digital multi-site, multi-agency radio and IP based microwave system; provide rotating, on-call service work; program voice and data radio communications equipment; work with vendors on the maintenance and repair of all radio users; repair and maintain Fire Alerting System (FAS); perform preventive maintenance at all radio tower sites, dispatch centers, FAS stations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items up to 30 lbs and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis.
Preferences will be given to applicants with working knowledge of Public Safety Communications radio operations utilizing a Motorola P25 trunked radio system. Knowledge of FCC Rules Regulations and radio programming, effective verbal and written communication skills, computer/PC operation skills, ability to accurately troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and make rapid and sound decisions and notifications of appropriate staff, and the ability to operate technical and computer test equipment. Preferences will also be given to individuals who prove completion of technical training courses in modern electronic technology or IP technology. Leadership skills preferably leading a technical team in Networking or Radio Communications industry. Certified Electronics Technician (C.E.T.) Certification is highly desired.

Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification. The salary range is:
Salary Range – Pay Grade 23
