DescriptionThe Communications Intern- will have the opportunity to work across programs (national, local, policy) and learn many skills and practices requisite to nonprofit communications. WOW is continually working to advance organizational communications with improved planning, outreach, and use of the latest software and technology, especially open-source technology. WOW works internally and with a PR firm to develop long-term communications strategy, attend to media inquiries, draft and edit Op-Eds and other written items, add WOW’s voice to the blogosphere and make savvy social media decisions to promote WOW’s brand and image.
The Communications Intern will: draft and edit text for blogging and social media efforts, shape communications best practices and innovative resources, participate in communications-related brainstorming sessions, research media markets, contribute to the development of email lists, attend relevant events and meetings and assist the Communications and Resource Development Officer with other tasks to be determined.
RequirementsCandidates should have impeccable written and oral communications skills and demonstrated experience in roles that include marketing, writing, editing, press interactions, design and layout, and social media. Also beneficial is an interest in WOW’s programs and policy issues. Experience using online email platforms, back-end website platforms, and Wordpress is a plus. Remote work is an option for this internship.
