LightHorse Healthcare, Inc. is an outpatient multi-disciplinary integrated behavioral healthcare practice in Coastal Georgia has an opening for interns in therapeutic riding & equine facilitated learning. Located in St. Marys, Georgia, the program provides traditional outpatient behavioral healthcare including counseling, psychology, psychotherapy and medication management in a traditional clinical office setting as well as in the experiential programs of Animal Assisted Therapy and Equine Assisted Therapy. The intern will have the opportunity to gain much needed skills to work along side different levels of providers in a highly clinical medical model practice that incorporates animals as a healing dimension in therapy.

Quality clincial training begins in internship and LightHorse Healthcare, Inc. offers training and supervision to 2 bright students each year in an effort to 'train interns' for the further development of the field to ensure ethical skilled providers continue to be available.

Responsibilities

The intern will work along side experienced therapeutic riding/animal assisted therapy instructors in our experiential program providing services to persons with disabilities and those mental health concerns. Horse management duties, exercising of horses and professional staff meetings are part of the daily routine as well. Hours of operation vary depending upon the program. Some evenings and weekends maybe required.

Requirements

Interns must have met the requirements for internship as a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor or similar certifying body. Course work in social services, psychology and Animal Assisted/Art or other Experiential Therapies is preferred.

The intern will need to be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and willing to learn Electronic Medical Records software systems for record keeping. The intern will also need to possess a strong work ethic and desire for excellence in professional development.
