Brandywine Zoo is seeking a dynamic and engaging person to join our education team! We are searching for a dedicated candidate to fill our year-long internship. This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position. This person will serve as an Educator and work in the Education Department of the Brandywine Zoo. The role of the Zoo Educator is to lead informal and formal education opportunities both on and off site, serves as a lead educator for summer Zoo Camps, and assist with special events. We’re looking for an individual with great people skills (especially with children!), self-starter, able to work as part of a team and independently, energetic, positive, creative, sense of humor, and has a passion for the environment! Zoo Educators are expected to be fun, safe, conscientious, and a committed leader who gets along well with others. Hours: Flexible hours required Monday – Sunday. Approximately 40 hours per week. Including some weekends and evenings. Dates: March 18th, 2013 – March 18th, 2014 (Some flexibility with start and end dates) Salary: Stipend of $100/week paid through the Delaware State Park Intern Program. Housing may be available. Responsibilities

Presentation: Zoo Educators present various live animal presentations that will attract and engage visitors on zoo grounds, assist zoo guests with way finding, lead tours for scheduled groups, assist with the zoo’s special events, teach environmental programs for our off-site programs; lead children ages 4-14 through our Summer Zoo Camps, and positively and professionally represent and promote the Brandywine Zoo and its programs. Duties: Designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating programs, teaching all ages and stages, assisting with administrative duties, animal handling, some marketing of educational programs, and other duties as needed.

Requirements

Must be 21 years of age, be able to work entire term, proof of negative TB test within the last 12 months, valid driver’s license, good physical condition, previous teaching experience required, animal handling experience a plus.
