JOB DESCRIPTION Children’s Program Director
Reports to: Associate Director
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director, the Children’s Program Director shall oversee the day to day operations of TLC’s Children’s Programs, and is responsible for the supervision of all areas of children’s programming, including Early Intervention, Center-based Early Intervention, Pre-school, wrap-around child care, and Children’s Afterschool. The Director will supervise program staff, and work as a liaison with multiple levels of staff and consultants, ensure all required reports, documents, and other mandated paperwork is submitted on a timely basis, participates as a member of the management team, as well as other responsibilities as identified by the Associate Director.
Works closely with Special Education Directors, Regional Centers, pediatricians, and other entities to bring awareness of TLC’s Children’s Programs.
Assist administrative staff, teachers and support personnel in designing a wide-range of quality and comprehensive services for infants, toddlers, preschool-age children and school-age students who are blind, deafblind, or blind with multiple impairments.
Supervise and provide training for all Children's Services staff including teachers, clinical therapists and program aides.
Works closely with administrative and supervisory staff who represent multiple school districts and early intervention programs in securing multiple contracts for TLC to provide direct and support services.
Organize and implement a wide-range of educational, clinical and support services for a diverse group of children, parents, siblings, grandparents and other care providers at TLC and in multiple communities.
Organize and implement teacher-training and clinical workshops at TLC and in other communities for teaching, clinical, administrative and support staff.
Work closely with administrative staff and development/public relations staff in designing information materials for the general public.
Work as a liaison with multiple levels of staff, student’s family, consultants, and other outside entities in the community.
Complete and maintain required paperwork for contracts, service agreements, specialized service audits, and licensing requirements.
- Review invoices and bills as appropriate.
- Review incident reports and ensure that Special Incident Reports are submitted to the appropriate parties (Regional Center, Associate Director, and HR Director within 24 hours of the incident.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
Valid California Early Childhood Special Education Teaching Credential, preferred
Previous Supervisory and Administrative experience.
Previous experience implementing program for infants, toddlers, and pre-school aged children typically developing and with disabilities
Must be self-motivated
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to interact effectively with a variety of advocates for children
Significant experience in staff development
Ability to be the liaison to outside community schools and agencies involved in the education of children with special needs
Demonstrate strong interpersonal and teamwork skills and work in a team-centered environment.
Ability to display a positive and professional demeanor.
Ability to communicate and work effectively with people of diverse cultures, education, social, and economic backgrounds.
Ability to give direction to staff and elicit buy-in on changes to policies and procedures.
Proficient in computer operations, including Microsoft Office and internet-based client tracking systems.
Maintain a valid CA driver’s license with a driving record that is acceptable for TLC’s insurance carrier.
Ability to lift 10 to 50 pounds.
Previous work for a non-profit preferred
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position is primarily in a temperature controlled open office area. There is frequent sitting for long periods of time. Frequent interruptions and crisis intervention. Frequent typing on and viewing the computer, report writing, and charting. Frequent cell phone and land line telephone use. Frequent driving for monitoring TLC assigned homes and consumer’s day programs. Moderate interactions with consumers that are developmentally and physically challenged that will need assistance. Working conditions are subject to occasional weather elements, i.e. sun, wind and rain for outside activities.
